"Learn By Doing"
Welcome to Otaua School!
Ours is a rural, decile 8 school, originally built and established in 1895. Currently we have a role of 127 - six classrooms and 10 staff including the classroom teachers, administration & support staff and senior management. We cater for children from the age of five to twelve/thirteen when they are ready to move on to high school.
Currently we have Mrs Deirdre Manins, Mrs Malloy and Mrs Maureen Henry teaching in the classrooms of our Junior Syndicate (Yr 0-3). In our Senior Syndicate ( Yr 4-8) are Mrs Michelle Wallis, Mrs Kelly Andrew and Mrs Megan Allen in Rooms 1, 2 and 3 . Mrs Allen is new to Otaua this year, having been appointed as our deputy principal. We also have Mrs Maria Kelsey, our administrator who works in our office managing a variety of tasks and answering a variety of questions! She is the 'face' of our school. Mrs Carol Graham is currently the principal. We have Mrs Claire Cochrane - our very much valued Teacher Aide and Mrs Barbara McFarquahar our part time Reading Recovery teacher. Mrs Kara Thornton is our regular part time release teacher and relief teacher when teachers are absent.
Otaua School has a big place in the history of this area. Although we are only six minutes from Waiuku township, we have managed to maintain our school's distinctly rural feel. We are lucky to have a very supportive school community - a very active PTA, Gala Committee, Calf Club committee and of course, our Board of Trustees. Many of these people have been a part of this area for a very long time - in fact some of our parents were pupils at this school and therefore have a lengthy history with us.
